Following Mark's birth in Cleveland, Ohio in 1970, his family soon moved to Elkhart, Indiana. After catching up with them a few months later, Mark attended school and eventually managed to graduate from DePauw University in 1992. Immediately afterward, he went to work for Bennett and has been chopping commercials, doing effects work, and building web gizmos ever since.

In the wee hours of the night, Mark likes to make games and write bad jokes. In 1997, The Baltimore Sun serialized his first novel, which to his knowledge no one has actually ever read.

Mark is also an Eagle Scout and still likes to go camping with his two kids Leah and Will- though it is difficult to imagine how anyone that pale has ever spent time outdoors.

He warns people to not get him talking about his children, however, because he will not be able to stop.
